He holds a medical degree from the ABC University Foundation and a PhD in Psychiatric Epidemiology from the University of London. He obtained his Habilitation (Livre-Docência) in the Department of Psychiatry at the Federal University of São Paulo (Unifesp).

He is Full Professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Medical Psychology at the Paulista School of Medicine, Federal University of São Paulo (Unifesp), Honorary Professor at the Institute of Psychiatry, King’s College London, an Honorary Member of the World Psychiatric Association (WPA), and Head of the Urban Mental Health Section of the WPA.

At CISM, he serves as Coordinator of the Human Resources Axis.
