
Nuno Sousa
Nuno Sousa is a physician, neuroradiologist, full professor, and the current Rector of the Max Planck University Center (UniMAX – Indaiatuba). He was one of the founders of the School of Medicine at the University of Minho, Portugal, where he served as President from 2017 to 2022. He also directed the Clinical Academic Center at Braga Hospital and the P5 Center for Digital Medicine.
He is President of AICIB (Portuguese Agency for Clinical Research and Biomedical Innovation). He has served on international advisory boards in medical education and assessment, including the National Board of Medical Examiners (NBME) and the European Board of Medical Assessors (EuroBMA). As a neuroscientist, he coordinated the Neurosciences program at the Life and Health Sciences Research Institute (ICVS), University of Minho, where his research has focused on stress, neuroplasticity, and neuropsychiatric disorders, integrating basic and clinical research.
Professor Sousa is Editor-in-Chief of Frontiers in Behavioral Neuroscience and serves on the editorial boards of several leading scientific journals. He previously served as President of the Portuguese Society for Neuroscience and of the Scientific Council for Life and Health Sciences of the Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT). He is also a member of the Bial Foundation and Chief Medical Officer of Pathena S.A.
At CISM, he serves as a member of the Advisory Board.
